Daniel Jacobs Gives Peter Quillin First Career Loss after 85 Second TKO

Should there be a rematch for this event?

Since beating cancer, the Daniel Jacobs comeback (he never really went anywhere in our opinion) has been one of the most inspirational things in all of sports. From defeating Jarrod Fletcher in summer 2014 to win the vacant WBA Middleweight title, he’s gone on to successfully defend the belt in three fights over the last 8 months – pretty impressive to say the least.

However tonight, he had to step in the ring against close friend Peter Quillin. Both fighters had a friendship, fighting various opponents in the middleweight and super-middleweight divisions over the last decade, but the inevitable battle of Brooklyn could no longer be avoided.

The Golden Child surprisingly wasn’t the favorite to win the bout due to Kid Chocolate’s size after weigh-ins, but he came out and went straight for the kill. Jacobs hit Quillin with multiple combo punches, including one final blow to do the dome that completely knocked Kid Chocolate off balance, as his legs turned into real-life spaghetti. The referee saw too much and wouldn’t risk Peter getting seriously injured, contrary to complains from those in the crowd and of course social media.

During the post-fight interview, Quillin’s camp weren’t mad at the stoppage, as their fighter visibly still looked lost at Barclay’s Center. While a bout against Gennady Golovkin is highly unlikely, his next opponent we’re expecting next spring will be against WBO Middleweight Champion Andy Lee, who coincidentally had a draw with Peter Quillin last April.

Let us know in the comments who you’d like to see Danny Jobs fight next.
