According to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein, NBA commissioner will be announcing his retirement later today at a press conference for a target date to leave February 1, 2014 after his 30th year of service. Stern who just recently turned 70 four weeks ago has been within the organization since 1966 and has been commissioner of the NBA since 1984 taking over reigns for Larry O’Brien.
His successor will be non-other than Adam Silver, currently deputy commissioner and chief operating officer since who was unanimously approved today by the NBA Board of Governors.
Whether or not the Mr. Silver returns the NBA back to its origins of being more enjoyable remains to be seen; but now we at least know there won’t be a stubborn commissioner in office anymore as one of the contributing factors to those many lockouts.
