Remember Tom Savage? He lasted one half before he was replaced by rookie Deshaun Watson on the field. Savage went 7/13 for 62 yards and the Houston Texans offense looked terrible to start the game. Then Watson came in and things started changing.
On his first drive, he had some mistakes (an interception that was called off because of a Jacksonville Jaguars penalty), but more importantly, he’s scoring.
On 1st and Goal in the red zone, Watson remained composed and threw a dart to DeAndre Hopkins, who was in between defenders, but with plenty of space to grab the TD. NRG Stadium in Houston exploded and now there’s hope the rookie brings the team back for a comeback victory.
It seems like this Watson to Hopkins connection might be one to watch all year.
