Dirk Nowitzki Announces Retirement In Finals Mavs Home Game

The Dirk Nowitzki era in Dallas is officially over tonight. After unofficially playing through what felt like a farewell tour without the announcement, Dirk took the time to tell fans after the Mavericks home game that he was retiring.

He did it with a bang too. He dropped 30 points against the Phoenix Suns, holding back emotions not only after his tribute video but as he addressed fans.

Nowitzki has spent 21 seasons with the Mavs and will probably go down as the most decorated player in franchise history. The likes of Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley and Larry Bird were all in the building to celebrate as Dirk said goodbye, sharing memories of Dallas legend from their days playing and away from the court.

Though he never formally said it this whole season, it’s time for Nowitzki to step away from the game and he’s going down as one of the best of all time.

One time for Dirk.
