The Clippers are betting big on free agency
Following their fourth-consecutive 50-win season and never making it past the semifinals under the Lob City era, Doc Rivers has a lot of decision making heading towards summer free agency.
The Clippers are fresh off their first-round upset loss against the Portland Trail Blazers, following injuries to their two team captains. Last year, the team decided to keep their big three in-tact, inking DeAndre Jordan to a hefty four-year deal; but now rumors are swirling that the team could be thinking about breaking up their tandem with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.
With the team still having trouble identifying their small-forward position and the lack of consistent bench production, Rivers has zero intentions of breaking up his core team. While the big three and Reddick (sometimes Jamal Crawford) haven’t been the problem with the team, Doc has had difficulties landing significant pieces in off-seasons – for players not past their prime.
Keeping the collective of his current Clippers squad could unfortunately be an emotional decision, which could affect the future of the team not taking the next step.
Doc Rivers says he wants to keep the #Clippers core together one more season. He said he also expects both Blake & CP3 to opt out afterward.
