Donald Sterling Agrees to Allow His Wife to Sell Ownership of Los Angeles Clippers

Los Angeles Clippers v Denver Nuggets
The Los Angeles Clippers could be worth close to $2 Billion with pending sale.

Last month saw one of the most uncomfortable NBA situations in league history, where an NBA owner made racist comments that became public. Clippers owner Donald Sterling was recorded on tape making some comments towards Magic Johnson in a private conversation with his former mistress, V. Stiviano. The tape would soon be obtained by TMZ, shocking the world and mostly the NBA players on his team. Los Angeles would hold a quiet protest along with various teams showing support about the situation and remained publicly calm.

Recently appointed commissioner Adam Silver would bring the hammer down on Sterling banning him from for life and fined him $2.5 million dollars, to serve as the maximum penalty under NBA rules. He didn’t budge however and made the situation worse on CNN’s Anderson Cooper Live, while not seeming sympathetic to the situation. More on story after the jump.

Today, after a long public fight and voicing his opinion, Sterling has finally agreed to allow his wife Shelly to negotiate a force sell of the team. The NBA Board of Governors originally intended to have a vote on June 3rd to remove his ownership in the league, but his advisers and people around closest around him finally got through his head to have him go away quietly.

Shelly has the power to decide who to sell the team to, which is kind of confusing whether they’ll pick someone close in their inner-circle. The NBA and most of all players want no part of the Sterling family or any ties to them moving forward into the off-season with new ownership.
