For the next installment “E:60”, ESPN journalist and reporter, Lisa Salters sits down with D-Wade to discuss his personal affairs dealing with the divorce in 2010 and even a very public custody battle of their two sons.
Two weeks prior to the infamous “Big 3 Celebration” in 2010, Wade filed for divorce from his wife, as the two began to file for full custody of their children. Already not seeing his kids, he had no alternative but to at least try and see what happens in court and the messy situation correlated with his on-court play.
Having to miss practices to get in-tune with the new Heat team, the squad was under intense monitoring from the press and fans and failure being no option. As everything seemed to be perfect in Miami Heat-land behind the scenes, all three superstars were dealing with personal issues.
LeBron James had just left Cleveland after “The Decision,” Chris Bosh would become a third option for the first time in his career and Wade’s off the court issues hindered him from keeping his composure internally. Wade had more worries to deal personally, making sure his teammates LBJ and Bosh were comfortable and on the same page. After winning full custody, Wade finally got on track on the court, winning his 2nd NBA Championship last June with the Miami Heat.
