In the latest episode ESPN’s “E:60” series, Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander is profiled as we get a look at his early life in his childhood and road to becoming “the best pitcher in the world.” In his early life, Justin was considered ADHD to as he would soon play little league baseball by the age of 6 to take his 100mph personality to the field to one day throw pitches at that same speed.
Known for loving fast cars, fast food and always on the go, the future MLB all-star was not recruited by any “big time” college programs and would go un-drafted after high school. After attending Old Dominion University setting numerous school records he would go drafted no. 2 overall by the Detroit Tigers and would soon go on to win AL Rookie of the Year. After a horrid third year he would finish with an 11-17 record and would improve the year after with a 19-9 record and every year after that.
Fresh off his AL Pitching Triple Crown year, a Cy Young Award and most of all winning the MVP, Justin has since went on to lead his Tigers to the World Series this year as they’re currently in a 0-2 hole against the San Francisco Giants. He’s scheduled to pitch Game 6 against the Giants Monday night while game 3 is on FOX at 8pm ET tonight.
