E:60 Matt Kemp’s Rise To Stardum

In the latest episode ESPN’s “E:60” series, Dodgers Center fielder Matt Kemp is profiled in a semi-biography documentary. Here, Kemp and his friends reflect on his early life growing up playing basketball and baseball in high school to now being one of faces in the MLB. Kemp also touches on the death of his brother, his past relationship with Rihanna and also being accused of rape in 2002.

Kemp had a breakout year in 2011 that earned him a franchise record 8-year, $160M contract. Although plagued with injuries last season, Kemp still managed to maintain a .303 batting average hitting 23 homers while missing over 50 games. His team missed the playoffs by two games he immediately went to have left shoulder to be healthy for next season.

There’s a lot of pressure next year for the Dodgers to “win” as a group led by Magic Johnson purchased the team for $2 Billion back in March. With one of the highest payrolls in all baseball, mediocrity next season will not be tolerated.
