“This Magic Moment” Documentary
During the mid-1990s when Michael Jordan retired from the NBA, many felt the next dynasty in the works, was the duo of Shaquille O’Neal and Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. Thanks to back-to-back top picks in the NBA Draft, the two would take the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals in their second year together. In just five years, the former expansion team of the league had gone to the big stage; but soon after, the Shaq-and-Penny fantasy unfortunately didn’t have its fairy tale ending.
The pair had an even bigger impact off-the-court, as Penny crafted his sneaker collection to become second to only his royal airness – while the diesel went to Hollywood to start a movie, music and entertainment career. However, the lifestyle of Los Angeles and a future ahead with chiefs in place (Jerry Buss and Jerry West), was instrumental in this team breaking up.
