Giants Rookie Chris Heston Tosses No-Hitter In Win Over Mets

The San Francisco Giants‘ pitchers have thrown no-hitters consecutively for four years straight, starting in 2012 with Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum in 2013 and 2014 and now Chris Heston has done so, tossing his first career no-hitter against the New York Mets in last night’s 5-0 win.

Heston is the first rookie to throw a no-hitter since Clay Bucholtz tossed one in his rookie season with the Boston Red Sox on September 1, 2007, and the first in Giants history since Jeff Tesreau’s no-hitter in 1912 — marking the 17th in franchise history.

Throughout the game, Chris Heston was in control the entire time, racking up a career-high in strikeouts with 11, no walks, but he did nick three batters on 110 pitches. He wasn’t only in command on the mound, as he had two hits and knocked in two runs during his at-bats.

After going strong the first eight innings, it all came down to the ninth, where he faced the heart of the lineup. Seeing Lucas Duda, who he hit, which caused Reliever Javier Lopez to begin loosening up in the bullpen. The next batter, Danny Muno, struck out looking. Up next was the hard-hitting outfielder Curtis Granderson, who Heston struck out as well. The final out came when Ruben Tejada struck out looking.
