Pablo Sandoval Hits 3 Homers In Upset Blowout Victory Over Detroit.
Wednesday night for game 1 of the World Series featured the AL favorite Detroit Tigers pitted against the NL underdog San Francisco Giants. The Tigers who hadn’t played in almost week after sweeping the Yankees would become victim of the strong hitting for the first time in nearly a month. Detroit would throw their ace Justin Verlander on the mound to with the Giants fresh off their Monday night game 7 NLCS victory putting Barry Zito.
Jumping to the bottom of the first, Justin would see his first of many hits this game as Pablo Sandoval would hit his first homer of the game to give the Giants a 1-0 lead shocking the baseball world as most expected (not me included) Verlander to not allow any homers or that many runs in the game but most were already wrong.
Skipping ahead to bottom of the 3rd, the Giants would see more run production on Verlander with Angel Pagan doubling to left with Marco Scutaro following with a single to center driving him in. Sandoval would follow once more with his 2nd homer of the game to left bringing in Scutaro to make it a 4-0 lead.
With Barry Zito continuing to dominate the Tigers lineup he would hit a single to left to drive in Brandon Belt for an RBI to make it a 5-0 game in the bottom of the 4th. In the next inning, Pablo Sandoval would hit his 3rd homer of the game on Al Alburquerque who came in for the struggling Justin Verlander to bring the game to 6-0.
2012 Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera would single to center bringing in Austin Jackson who previously hit a double to left to give Detroit their first run of the game. In the bottom of the 7th, San Francisco would push the gap further in their lead scoring two more runs with singles from both Marco Scutaro and Buster Posey to drive in two runs making the game 8-1.
In the bottom of the 9th In the bottom of the 9th Delmon Young would single to right with Jhonny Peralta following with a homer to center to make it a 8-3 game, but it wasn’t enough as the Giants would end the game on a grounded fielder’s choice to short from Ramon Santiago.
Game 2 is tonight back at AT&T park at 8pm ET on FOX as Madison Bumgarner takes the mound for the Giants with the Tigers throwing out Doug Fister. This game is especially important for Detroit if they want to have some chance at winning back the home-field. A win tonight for the Giants guarantees a game back home if they happen to lose more than two games in Detroit.
