Cabrera Becomes Fist Triple Crown Winner Since 1967.
Wednesday night, on the final night of the 2012 season for the MLB, Detroit Tigers, third baseman Miguel Cabrera became the fist player in 45 years to win the Triple Crown joining the likes of icons like Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams & Lou Gehrig to name a few.
Cabrera led the AL in batting average with .330; and also led the majors in both homers and ribbies with 44 and 139 respectively. CF’s Josh Hamilton of Texas and Curtis Granderson of New York were both 1 shy of tying Cabrera in the homerun department. Curtis knocked in two homers earlier in the Yankees AL East crowning victory earlier; but after the conclusion of that game, Tigers skipper Jim Leyland decided to pull his star out of the game as he got his well-deserved standing ovation for his memorable play during this season.
Countess hitters of our times such as legends like Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez have never achieved to this accomplishment, so Miguel’s crowning moment tonight should never go unappreciated by any fan of the game of baseball especially with him being a “clean” hitter and doing the “right” way.
Detroit will continue their celebration all the way until Saturday when they play host the Oakland Athletics for the first game of the divisional series playoffs.
