Josh Smith Agrees To Deal With Houston Rockets

Houston really needs Josh’s outside game to be on point

The Houston Rockets off-season was one of the worst the history of their franchise. From coming just minutes short of landing Chris Bosh in free agency to losing both Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin, the Rockets were left with nothing to surround franchise players James Harden and Dwight Howard. The team was successful in landing Trevor Ariaza and acquiring Corey Brewer just last week, through trade with Minnesota.

Last Monday, Josh Smith was released from his four-year, $54 million contract – with still two seasons remaining after this year. The Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings were both in heavy pursuit of landing Smith, but the obvious destination he and Dwight Howard planned two years ago was inevitable in Houston.

The 29-year-old has agreed to terms with the Rockets after clearing waivers today, and is expected to obtain the team’s $2 million biannual exception. With the team giving head coach Kevin McHale a three-year extension, Houston now has time to just focus on the court with comfort and some depth with the new addition of Josh.
