It’s official. The Kemba Walker era is over in Charlotte because the All-Star guard is taking his talents to the north east to play for the Boston Celtics as soon as free agency opens up on July 1. With owner Michael Jordan not putting up the SUPER MAX money to keep him with the Hornets (and lowballing his contract), Kemba opted to leave for greener pastures and head towards Boston on a 4-year, $141 million contract with the C’s.
As reported this week, the Celtics and Walker both intend for the All-Star guard to commit to a four-year, $141M maximum contract once free agency opens on Sunday at 6 PM. Walker is traveling to New England to meet with Celtics officials at 6 PM ET. https://t.co/KxKR56ezXB

The Celtics are in a bit of a reboot themselves, renouncing contracts on the likes of Kyrie Irving, Al Horford, and Terry Rozier, so it’s a massive gain for them to land Walker this offseason.
The team will now move forward with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and Kemba into next season, still a formidable squad to do damage in the Eastern Conference, depending on how the rest of the free agent dominoes land this summer.
Though they gave up some major pieces moving forward, the Celtics landing Walker is a massive recoup.
