In what may possibly the NBA game of the week, the San Antonio Spurs came into Oklahoma City to take on the healthy Thunder to start their season. OKC has been regarded as one of the top team out of the Western Conference the past few years, but with the injury bug biting them left and right and striking the likes of Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka and Kevin Durant, it’s been hard for them to regain championship form and make a run to the NBA Finals.
But all that is in the past as they go into another NBA season, with the team fully stacked and healthy to take the throne. After the game, Westbrook said it was a blessing to have Durant out on the floor, as the Thunder squeezed by the Spurs in a 112-106 thriller.
Durantula looked refreshed and ready to beast, finishing the game with 22 points and 6 rebounds on the night, while mighty Russ led all scorers with 33 points and 10 assists.
On the other side of the ball, LaMarcus Aldridge made his debut for San Antonio and managed to get 11 points, but it was Kawhi Leonard who carried the team with a career-high 32 points on the night.
These two teams will definitely be battling it out for the top spots in the West this season, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out as the months continue. So far the Thunder are 1-0, but it might be a different story come playoff time.
