The Boston Celtics have been without Kyrie Irving for four games and that number is only going to rise in crunch time, as the team announced he will undergo “minimally invasive” surgery to fix his left knee. Soreness is what has made him miss games recently and they’re hoping this procedure will combat that in time for playoffs.
He will not travel with the Celtics as they begin a four-game road trip (starting in Portland), though doctors hope to have more information on his return after the surgery.
Knee injuries have plagued Kyrie since 2015 when he injured (and had surgery) on to repair his kneecap after the NBA Finals that season.
Irving was hoping that the soreness would alleviate with extended rest, but that didn’t seem to be the case, so he sought a second opinion from doctors on what to do to help the problem. This minor surgery is what they suggested.
Boston has been decimated by injuries this season, but are still holding on to the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference standings as of now.
UPDATE BELOW
