A motivational speech from the heart
It’s been a rough season for the Texas Longhorns football squad, taking a devastating loss to BYU in the second week of the season, then barely losing to UCLA 20-17 the week after. In need of a morale lift, Coach Strong invited fellow alumni Matthew McConaughey to talk to the players at practice and give them a little push before the next game. Even though he said he wasn’t going to preach to the team, he certainly did just that. He even had them join in for his infamous chest bump chant from The Wolf of Wall Street. He even told them how that scene ended up in the film.
And surprisingly, it worked! Texas went out and shutout the Kansas Jayhawks 23-0 the next week and ran away with the win.
The Longhorns now take No. 7 ranked Baylor this week, so let’s hope McConaughey is out there giving the kids a real speech to get them excited for the upcoming matchup this Saturday.
