Tate takes title from Holm at UFC 196!
Since losing to Ronda Rousey in 2013 at UFC 168, Miesha Tate has been on a continuous run to become the best female fighter in the world. Her chances soon opened up last fall, when Holly Holm defeated Ronda, sidelining the former Queen of the octagon for some time.
Luckily, Tate managed to keep her record in clear of any loses, for an immediate shot at Holly last night at 196. While the two showed no animosity towards each other prior to the bout, that quickly changed when Holly was looking for a knockout, while Tate tried to get her ground game on.
The second round was the best moment of the entire night, as Miesha looked to go for an early kill against her opponent; but Holm wouldn’t die. As Holly managed to win the third and fourth rounds, Tate was down to the final minutes of the last round and held onto the over-sized Holm with all of her strength for a rear-naked choke, to capture the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
After the fight concluded, judges revealed that Miesha would’ve lost the fight if she didn’t win by submission or knockout, so her rally performance changed the landscape of the fighting brand heading forward. We’re not sure whether Holly will get an immediate rematch or if company president Dana White will have a no. 1 contenders match with Rousey and Holm this summer; but we now know Miesha is finally the best fighter in the world after capturing her first ever UFC belt.
