Miguel Cotto Knocks Out Daniel Geale to Retain Titles, Canelo Alvarez Fight Likely Next

The Cotto vs. Canelo fight could go down this fall!

Saturday night, Miguel Cotto returned to the ring for the first time since defeating Sergio Martínez in 2014 for the WBC, Lineal and The Ring Middleweight titles. The Roc Nation boxer was coincidentally in Brooklyn for his first ever fight at Barclays Center against Australian fighter Daniel Geale. With both fighters taking an orthodox style stance approach to the bout, we gave the predetermined edge to Miguel, which was evident in the fight’s length.

The Atlantic Avenue attendees were well behind their east coast fighter, as Cotto provided why he was still one of the top fighters in the world throughout the one-sided affair. Geale, however, isn’t a pushover, as he’s a former unified middleweight WBA (Super) and IBO Middleweight champion before losing to Gennady Golovkin last July.

Coincidentally, Triple G was in the crowd scouting his potential 2016 opponent Cotto, who is already negotiations to fight former WBC & The Ring Light Middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez. With the fall fight set for an imminent announcement in the next few weeks after Floyd Mayweather decides to pick Amir Khan as his last fight in September, Golovkin will be looking to fight the winner of the Cotto and Canelo showdown.
