Mookie Betts does it all in Boston Red Sox home opener!

Earlier today, the Boston Red Sox played host to the Washington Nationals in their home opener at Fenway Park. We’re pretty sure the fans were thrilled that the home team came out on top – pulling off a 9-4 win over the Nationals. But without a doubt, today’s highlights came from none other than Red Sox‘ center fielder Mookie Betts, who had an outstanding day to say the least.

His eventful day started in the first-inning, when he robbed Nationals star right-fielder Bryce Harper of a home-run with an incredible leaping catching in right center field. Leading off in the bottom half of the inning with a walk, Betts stole second and just as he got in under the tag, he realized third-base was uncovered and quickly made the decision to steal third as well. Washington challenged both safe calls, but they were upheld in Betts favor. On the next pitch, he scored on an RBI single to left by Ortiz.

Just when you probably thought his day was through, Mookie Betts showed his talents at the plate in the bottom of the second. With two runners on base, Betts lined a three-run shot into the Monster seats — his second home-run of the season.

Betts finished the day going 2-4, with a home-run, two stolen bases, a robbed home-run and 4 RBIs.

The Boston Red Sox are 18-5 in their last 23 home openers and improve to 5-2 on the season. The Nationals fall to 2-5. Game two of the three game set starts tomorrow at 6:10 PM EST.
