Nate Diaz Chokes Out Conor McGregor at UFC 196

Daaaaaamn Diaz!

The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and fans watching UFC 196, got arguably one of the greatest double main events ever. With Miesha Tate upset making Holly Holm choke to capture her first ever Women’s Bantamweight Championship, the main event with Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor lived up to expectations. As Conor went on a two-week long promotional campaign for the fight (see: Ronda Rousey), the two exchanged a war of words; where things got so hostile, that the two fighters almost came to blows at press conference earlier in the weekend.

Luckily, Saturday night, the two stepped into the octagon for a thriller. In the early rounds, Conor had Nate leaking from his right eye, which the general belief was Diaz would be losing the bout in the later stages of the match. However, after one tag early in the second round, McGregor was stunned, which almost caused him to lose consciousness while standing. Nate soon saw an opening and immediately went for the kill, which resulted in Conor tapping out in a rear-naked choke.

Due to Rafael dos Anjos obtaining an injury prior to this bout, McGregor jumped two classes to welterweight for his debut in the division and will still keep his Featherweight Championship – for the time being. We’re sure Rafael chuckled at the ending result, but we know for damn sure he’s upset at missing out on the pay day Diaz gets to head back to the Bay Area with.
