New York Knicks Take 2-0 Series Lead Over Boston Celtics In 87-71 Blowout Win

J.R. Smith Carries 6th Man Of The Year Award To The Floor Helping Melo Lead NYK’s To Victory.

The Knicks are now 2 wins away from winning their first playoff series in 13 years, as they defeated the Boston Celtics in a 87-71 win. Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 34 points, while the newly awarded sixth-man of the year J.R. Smith was added in 19. Celtics legend, Paul Pierce had 18 points on 19 shots and the new breakout star of the team, Jeff Green only contributed 10 points with a 3-11 stat-line.

The story of tonight’s game was both team shooting horrendous from 3 but the Knicks limiting the Celtics to their worst 2nd-half of the season (and one of the worst we’ve seen ever) scoring only 23 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters combined. Kevin Garnett spent most of the game on the bench dealing with foul trouble, which we’re expecting him to have a major impact in game 3 with the added extra rest.

The series now transitions back to Boston this Friday night at 8pm ET with the Celtics playing their first home game in nearly 2 weeks since last week’s bombings. The Celtics will be looking to avoid their first opening round exit since 2005 with the surging Knicks on the brink of ready to take the next step.

Remember Amar’e Stoudemire? He’s waiting in the wings for the second round, which he’ll definitely be a factor against the Indiana Pacers front court. The next two games in Boston should show us whether the Knicks are really ready for 2013.
