Tom Thibodeau received a blessing in disguise
Last week, Tom Thibodeau landed one of the most prominent jobs in the entire NBA, becoming the new head coach and president of basketball operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins, cap space, freedom to run the organization and even a guaranteed high lottery pick for this summer – it was an obvious choice for any one behind the scenes to choose. However, before heading to the great north, Thibs originally had plans of going to the big apple, to become the new head coach of the New York Knicks.
While Phil Jackson (current team president) got wind of Tom wanting the job at Madison Square Garden, he had zero interest of bringing Thibs to the franchise – which most are assuming could be his unwillingness to change the team’s direction of the triangle offense.
As team owner James Dolan and fans of the team growing restless with decisions from the Zen Master this spring, as well as uncertainty of Carmelo Anthony returning back to the team, Phil’s job security could see a drastic decrease if New York doesn’t make significant off-season moves.
FYI: Thibs' agent reached out to the Knicks. Let them know how much he wanted the job. Jackson showed no interest…
