Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers formally introduced their newly acquired center Andrew Bynum at their press conference. Bynum, who was greeted by a crowd of nearly 2,000, gave fans a sigh of relief as he reiterated his desire to stay with the 76ers organization stating he doesn’t want to be a player that bounces from team-to-team. Bynum grew up 50 miles away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J. and is set to become a free agent after the 2013 season but the general feeling is that he’s leaning towards re-signing a max offer.
Last season in a career year for the 24-year old superstar, he averaged 19 points and 12 boards with 13 shot attempts per game. Pretty impressive considering he was playing Kobe Bryant of all people, who’s known to take things in his own hands. Bynum was also elected to his first all-star team last year.
The 76ers who had a face-lift this off-season, also brought in guards Nick Young and Jason Richardson to join Jrue Holiday & Evan Turner. Now with the addition of the 2nd best Center in the NBA, if the 76ers can develop trust and chemistry within the team which starts with coach Doug Collins, they could definitely be one of sleeper teams out east poised to be a threat in the playoffs.
