It looks like Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder will be missing the rest of the baseball season, as the star first-baseman is set to undergo season-ending neck surgery on Tuesday of next week.
Just a week after being diagnosed with herniated disk in his neck, Prince took a few days off after receiving a nerve-root injection on Saturday. Today, Prince went to see a spine specialist after symptoms started to worsen, and the doc, Dr. Drew Dossett, broke the news that it would be best for him to have the fusion surgery in order to fix the problem.
Although, Rangers GM Jon Daniels said that they would like to get a second opinion, they’re pretty certain that the original judgement will stand, and Prince will still have the surgery. After the Rangers place the first-baseman on the DL, he will become the 17th player from the team to be on the disabled list this season.
