Rondo Suspended Game 2 For Bumping Referee

Missing The ‘Point’ ?

The NBA announced Monday that Celtics guard Rajon Rondo will be suspended without pay for game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks. This was Rondo’s second incident this year in which involved contact with a referee as he was suspended in February for throwing a ball at an official. Before the ‘bump’, Rondo felt the referees missed two calls; in which one was a non-reviewed deflection out of bounds by a hawk’s player ruled hawks ball, and the other a loose ball foul call on Celtics forward, Brandon Bass resulting in him fouling out of the game. This call enraged Rondo as he approached referee Marc Davis to dispute the foul call claiming it should’ve been a jump ball, but this prompted Davis to give Rondo a technical. Immediately following that, Rondo was still complaining and stumbled on Davis’ shoe forcing his momentum to shift into Davis back. Davis immediately tossed Rondo from the game and sentencing was set. Rondo claimed he didn’t intentionally mean to bump Davis but league officials though otherwise.

Avery Bradley who’s been having a breakout year at shooting guard will likely switch to point guard in the absence of Rondo. This suspension will put the C’s in a tough spot for game 2 as they will also be without Ray Allen who’s been battling ankle injuries this season.

Game 2 is scheduled for Tonight on NBA TV with a tip-off set for 7:30 pm (ET).
