Earlier Saturday afternoon, down 0-2 the Los Angeles Clippers looked to give the Spurs their first loss in over a month and half. The Clippers, to no surprise came out in the first quarter outscoring the Spurs 33-11. Blake griffin outscored the Spurs alone scoring 14 points in the first period. By the end of the 2nd quarter, the Spurs crept back to within 7 points not before Clippers guard Mo Williams hit a 3 pointer to put them back up by 10. Billy Crystal and the sea of red were enjoying their hometown Clippers 10 point lead at the 9:38 mark when Blake Griffin scored in the 3rd. The Spurs then went on a 24-0 run lead by Captains Tim Duncan & Tony Parker to take a 12 point lead. The Clippers had gone nearly 8 minutes without scoring until a minute and 25 seconds left in the quarter when Mo Williams hit a jump shot. By the end of the 3rd the Clippers were visibly defeated and frustrated with their lead disappearing in a blink of an eye that quarter. In the 4th, San Antonio just coasted to the finish line as they held their 10 point lead almost the whole quarter, and even pulled a Hack-A-Shaq on Clippers big, Reggie Evans.
Not even a 24 point lead by Los Angeles could make San Antonio throw in the towel before halftime. The 2012 NBA Playoffs has been quite memorable as this was the 2nd largest comeback this year. The 76ers overcame a 18 point deficit last night against Boston and the Clippers came back from 18 down to upset the Memphis Grizzlies in game 1 of the first round. Blake Griffin finished with a game high 28 points 16 rebounds; while Mo Williams chipped in 19 points off the bench. Tony Parker was dubbed player of the game as he had 23 points with 10 assist and rookie sensation Kawhi Leonard played 37 minutes scoring 14 points and 9 boards. This win marked the Spurs 17th in a row; and while the Clippers aren’t ready to go fishing just yet, they will look to extend this series tomorrow night in this back to back stretch.
Game 4 is scheduled this Sunday on TNT with a tip-off set for 10:30 pm (ET).
