Super Bowl LII Awarded To Minneapolis

The site of the old Metrodome will finally see a Super Bowl in 2018!

This afternoon, the NFL held their owners meeting and announced the 2018 Super Bowl will be hosted by Minnesota. They were among the three finalists facing New Orleans, who was the previous favorite (Super Bowl XLVII in 2013) and Indianapolis (Super Bowl XLVI in 2012).

Their new $1 billion dollar Vikings Stadium that broke ground last December was probably a large deciding factor for the league to shift the location to their newest attraction. The stadium is set to open for the 2016 season, giving the city and players time to adjust before the big event. The University of Phoenix Stadium is set to host next year’s Super Bowl XLIX, followed by the 49ers showing off their new Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl L & then its return to Houston for Super Bowl LI.

The Vikings have had an extremely busy off-season hiring hew head coach Mike Zimmer, bringing in offensive coordinator Norv Turner and defensive coordinator George Edwards. The team is looking to build around their running back Adrian Peterson once again, who will be 30 next year. They went out and drafted QB Teddy Bridgewater and LB Anthony Barr, plus made key free agent signings of Captain Munnerlyn, Derek Cox, Linval Joseph and Corey Wootton.

Also among the hot topics at the owners meeting was the expansion of the NFL playoffs and pushing the extra point FG back to the 32-yard-line; both of which set to be re-examined at the next meeting in October – then hopefully the future of DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket exclusivity.
