Will DirecTV get sacrificed for AT&T’s U-Verse cable service down the line?

With a month of speculation between the two major companies, AT&T has officially announced the buyout of satellite television company DirecTV. AT&T is truly in the running to take over TV near you, because 26 million subscribers will soon see a few changes in the near future. Expect more bundled services such as high-speed broadband, videos, and channels through mobiles services at over 2,000 retail stores. All of that is now in the works thanks to this deal.

AT&T has also been vocal about facing competition from both Comcast and Verizon and plan to launch in 15 million rural locations, such as Latin America; which covers about 18 million subscribers.

CEO of AT&T Randall Stephenson stated that “the merge with DirecTV is a great fit, offering a unique opportunity that will redefine the video entertainment industry and create a company able to offer new bundles and deliver content to consumers across multiple screens — mobile devices, TVs, laptops, cars and even airplanes.”

AT&T is still trying to keep up with its competitors in the long run and Verizon already has their own cable and internet bundle, so they’re not too phased by the news. AT&T and DirecTV will be holding a press conference tomorrow morning to clear up any further questions.
