Since securing promotion to the Premier League during the 2012 season, Southampton managed to attain a steady 14th finish in the table at the end of the season. Thanks to players such as Gaston Ramirez and Jason Puncheon, the squad have been able to rattle even the strongest of teams in terms of going forward and filling in the gaps. Although the attacking aspects look strong, defence has been a notable issue and resulted in a lower finish in the table. Dejan Lovren has been brought in from Lyon to help fill the void in 2013/14, after signing for £8.5 million from Lyon and successfully winning the Coupe de France.
