The Real Reason Chris Bosh Didn’t Leave Miami for Houston

It wasn’t all about the money?

When LeBron James bolted for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the offseason, one of the other questions for the Miami Heat was whether Chris Bosh would stay in South Beach and sign with the squad or if he would try to chase a championship in Houston with the Rockets and form their own Big 3 out West. Ultimately, Bosh chose to stay in Miami thanks to a 5-year $118 million dollar contract, but in talking to CBS Sports, he says that wasn’t the major factor in his decision.

Sure he would have taken less and been on a team in serious contention to win the title, but it was pressure —not money— that weighed more on him staying.

“I could see where people would think that’s an attractive site. They were trying to win right away. And I was really happy to be touted that I possibly could’ve been out there. But you know, that doesn’t guarantee anything, and I know that. All that guarantees is a bunch of pressure. It’s incredibly difficult to win a championship. I know that, and I know it’s a whole process.

I’m familiar with people [in Miami], I know how to get to work. And if there’s traffic, I know the shortcuts. It’s those small things that I really love about the city and I love about being comfortable that guided me back. And you know, if you can make a couple of dollars on the side, then it works out.”

With Bosh being an integral part of the Heat offense now and the go-to guy in Miami, the Heat are sitting at the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference with a 6-5 record. Some questioned whether they would even make it to the playoffs, but for the moment, the outlook is promising.

They just need their supporting cast to step up, especially with Dwyane Wade sitting out so many games due to injury.
