Ricky Rubio has been in the midst of trade rumors for plenty of seasons and it seems like he’s finally packing his bags out of Minnesota. The Utah Jazz are in need of a point guard with George Hill testing out free agency and have made the move to acquire Rubio in exchange for a 2018 first-round draft pick, which the Jazz own via Oklahoma City. It should be noted that it’s a Top 14 protected pick.
Ricky has two years left on his contract and is injury prone, but still averages a high number of assists for his career and should be setting up Rudy Gobert swiftly the next few seasons.
It’s interesting that the T-wolves would deal Rubio, considering Kris Dunn was shipped out and only Tyus Jones serving as the team’s only point guard. Either Coach Tom Thibodeau will be using Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Butler as point forwards, or the organization will move in free agency to lure free agents like Kyle Lowry, Patty Mills or Derrick Rose to fill the void at guard.
We’ll see how things play out in Minnesota. The team is loading up.
