As unexpected as the news came to former Baylor star Isaiah Austin, the NBA pulled one of the classiest moves ever seen in the history of the draft. After being diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a condition that affects the body’s connective tissue and produced an enlarged aaorta for Austin, Adam Silver took the time to recognize him before the 16th pick in the draft.
In a very emotional moment, the NBA drafted Austin as a symbol of what hard work and dedication can accomplish. Every basketball player dreams of getting their named called and putting on that hat, walking to the podium and shaking the commissioner’s hand. Even someone who had to step away from the game at the risk of dying, did too.
