Big Z-Bo likely to finish career in Memphis 10-a-Key with new two-year extension.
One of the most feared low-post threats around the NBA for the last decade has been Zach Randolph. After having stints in Portland, Los Angeles and even New York under the beloved Isiah Thomas tenure we all loved; Randolph has finally found comfort and a secure home in Memphis. Joined by Marc Gasol, the two have developed one of the best front-court tandems the league has seen in years. What’s held them back in recent years from taking the next step, is the lack of consistent shooting from wing players.
Although the team has Mike Conley as their third go-to player, Tony Allen’s offense has been unreliable to knock down jump-shots when needed if teams are playing the paint. The new deal now gives Grizzlies management flexibility to sign talent around Z-Bo and Gasol and potentially upgrade their small forward and shooting guard positions.
Randolph’s extension will begin at the start of the 2015 season, which the 32-year-old baller will see his next free agency in the summer of 2017. With a consistent scoring presence in the paint, the team is bound to lure some free agents to Memphis starting this summer.
