Def Jam Fighting Reboot on PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X Will End the WWE 2K Series

Def Jam reboot. .

This week, Def Jam social media accounts went viral, with teasing an announcement for their fighting series. Since the company’s last title in 2007 on last-gen, they’re looking to reboot the franchise on next-gen.

Over the spring, we made a controversial post, calling out all sports companies for wasting too much time on implement features, in comparison to focusing on core gameplay. This has made sports gaming limited on current-gen systems, with developers looking to max out graphics on dated hardware.

Now, for the first time ever, Microsoft and Sony are launching systems, that will be identical to PC specs. With that being said, Def Jam is believed to be in development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

We expect virtually every artist under the Universal umbrella to be featured on the title (not named Kanye West), which will see its return for the first time in 14 years. Yes, we’ve gone almost a decade and a half without a Def Jam fighting game – which has been one of the most requested sports titles.

This coincides with the WWE 2K franchise, which has all but killed themselves with three consecutive lackluster releases. Fans of the WWE 2K wrestling series are in need of a title with good gameplay, and we expect Def Jam on next-gen to have this.

With rumors of All Elite Wrestling planning an inevitable sports game, Def Jam could be the final nail in the coffin, for an already struggling promotion.
