Microsoft Purchases “Gears of War” Series From Epic Games

grs

Today, Microsoft Studios formally announced their acquisition of the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. In previous years, former Epic president Mike Capp expressed the idea of the chainsaw shooter expanding to the PlayStation brand, but that has now ended today.

Following the original release for Gears of War in 2006, the franchise was on track to becoming a potential successor for the Halo series; but took a hit in the quality aspect of releases in recent years. While we still have some hope the franchise can return back to its glory days with the pending implement of the all-new Unreal 4 engine, it’s going to be hard seeing the game move on without its original developer Cliff Bleszinski. The upcoming untitled Gears of War will now be produced developed by Black Tusk Studios, formerly Microsoft Vancouver.

While we remain optimistic on the future for the series, it will definitely see a much needed adrenaline shot when it makes its premiere on the Xbox One. Stay tuned for more news.
