Online Entertainment & Media
Before both consoles released, we were promised many apps and new innovations of delivering online entertainment. HBO GO, ESPN, NFL Now, Skype, VEVO and Starz highlight the Xbox One in comparison to the lackluster selection we have on PlayStation 4. Luckily for Sony users, they have the best app/feature among any consoles, which is Share Play. Although it only works for one-hour per gaming session, gamers have freedom to play titles your friends don’t own – and vice versa. While the apps listed above can currently be found on Chromecast for just $24.99, we’ve been using each console strictly for the WWE App.
If you’re yet to purchase a Chromecast, it’s a must if you use the each console for just video content streaming. In the coming months, Sony is looking to make huge strides in their console with the recent announcement of its PlayStation VUE. The cloud-based TV service will be offering users the choice of paying for what they watch. At the moment, there’s no timetable release date for the service, but we’re assuming it will arrive 4th quarter 2015. With its original POWERS series to make an impact in the next few weeks, this should entail for how online exclusive video series and content will move heading forward.
Microsoft is already seeing success with its HALO Nightfall series, and is looking to generate more viewers over to its official SHOWTIME and Steven Spielberg HALO TV series this summer. Both sides are trying to figure out how to keep users off smartphones, tablets and smart TVs, which so far has been highly entertaining from our end.
