More R-Rated super-hero films?

With filming for Wolverine 3 finally underway this month, 20th Century Fox has shared some major news regarding its upcoming superhero project. Hugh Jackman, who’s playing his final performance as Wolverine, will see his motion picture experience shifting from its traditional PG-13 elements to Rated-R. Given the success of Deadpool, breaking numerous theatrical sales, the project was already rumored to jump into the mature audience realm next year.

During a press event for X-Men: Apocalypse, producer Simon Kinberg confirmed the rating saying, “The film a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of the movies. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone, it’s just a very cool, different film.” With the untitled project set to take place in the future, as well detailing the father-son relationship between Professor X and Wolverine, we’re just as lost as you in the direction Fox is going with. In related news, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle and Richard E. Grant have also all signed on to join the cast.

Look for Wolverine 3 in theaters next year on March 3, 2017.
