Apple Announces iPhone 8, iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 3

The day has finally arrived. Like they do every September, Apple are back with another press conference announcing the latest products, namely the new iPhones, and more. In this case, it’s the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, Apple Watch Series 3, Apple TV 4K in question, along with the operating system, iOS 11. It’s the first launch from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple’s new campus in Cupertino, California.

Here’s everything you need to know about the iPhone 8, iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 3.

iPhone 8 + 8 Plus

Aerospace-grade aluminium, 7-layer color process, 50% deeper strengthening layer, glass designed reinforced steel. 4.7″ retina display in the 8 and 5.5″ in the 8+. New displays, with True Tone that adapts color and temperature to ambient light. New stereo speakers that are 25% louder than iPhone 7 and have deeper bass. New A11 Bionic chip is the most powerful in a smartphone. Six core 64-bit. Two high-performance cores, four high-efficiency cores. Second-gen performance controllers. A11 has a new image processor, with faster low light autofocus, new hardware noise reduction.

All new 12MP sensor that provides 83 percent more light and more power efficient. 8 Plus has dual 12mp sensors – f1.8 and f2.8 on the telephoto. New dual-camera feature Portrait Lighting senses depth and reworks lighting while composing the shot. Highest quality video capture ever in a smartphone. Newly designed video encoder with faster video frame rates, can shoot 4K 60 fps, 1080p 240 fps slow-mo. Cameras calibrated for AR with new gyroscopes and sensors. iPhone 8 has LTE Advanced, BT 5.0. and a glass back for wireless charging.

iPhone 8 comes in 64GB for $699, also 256GB version. 8 Plus comes in 64GB for $799, also a 256GB version. Pre-orders on September 15th, arriving September 22nd.

iPhone X

Glass on the front and back, using the same formula as iPhone 8. Surgical-grade stainless steel band around the sides. Water and dust resistant. Space gray and silver. All-new Super Retina Display. 2436 x 1125 resolution, 5.8-inch diagonal. 458ppi, highest pixel density in an iPhone. HDR in both Dolby Vision and HDR. Million-to-one contrast ratio.

3D Touch. No home button, raise to wake or tap screen. Swipe from the bottom to go home. Side button is now larger, press and hold to talk to Siri. Unlock phone with FaceID. TrueDepth camera system at the top of the display to enable it. IR camera, floor illuminator, dot projector all in the front camera section. Specialized hardware built for a specific set of machine learning algorithms. Neural engine is dual-core, 600bn operations per second.

FaceID adapts to you if your face changes over time. Works with Apple Pay – look at the phone to unlock and then point at the reader. 12MP dual cameras, f1.8 and 2.4 on the telephoto. Dual OIS. Quad-LED TrueTone flash. Lasts 2 hours more than iPhone 7. Wireless charging mat called AirPower – supports the iPhone, Apple Watch Series 3 and AirPods.

Apple Watch Series 3

Apple Watch Series 3 includes cellular and uses the same number as your phone. Apple Music can be streamed on the Apple Watch. New dual-core processor. Siri is faster and can now talk. 85% faster Wi-Fi. The display is the antenna for LTE and UMTS. Integrated electronic SIM. Same size as Series 2. Difference is the back crystal extends an extra .25mm. Comes in various cases and bands. Comes in space gray, sport loop band and Nike Plus models.

Pre-orders from September 15th, available September 22nd. $329 for regular, $399 with cellular. $249 for Series 1.
