AT&T Reveals First Cities for 5G Mobile Launch

Nationwide launch in late 2019. . .

Last month, AT&T announced plans to roll-out the first ever 5G network before the end of 2018. Well, with the rest of the nation waiting for other mobile service providers to share details for 2019 launches, AT&T reveals its first three cities that will get 5G next fall. Texas cities, Dallas and Waco will join Atlanta as the big three to help launch the network later this year. In a press statement, AT&T said, “Our mobile 5G deployments this year will be based on 3GPP standards.

We will use mmWave to provide mobile 5G first, and then deploy the technology on additional spectrum bands. The equipment that we are deploying today in our LTE network is 5G capable. So, the work that we are doing now prepares us to seamlessly migrate to standards-based 5G.”

The company has plans of also revealing nine more cities, so the three above are just in the initial announcement. Look for those locations to emerge in the weeks leading up to its launch.
