6 days before Guardians of the Galaxy is slated to invade theaters, Marvel confirms an official sequel.

Hall H of San Diego’s 2014 Comic-Con International Convention was granted some of the biggest news this weekend, when Marvel confirmed an official sequel was in place to follow their upcoming superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Marvel Studios and Disney have had success this year with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and plan to continue next year with their upcoming release next year for Avengers: Age of Ultron – but made shock waves when film star Chris Pratt and director James Gunn revealed the sequel would be hitting theaters on July 28, 2017. This comes just days before the original film hits theaters this Friday on August 1st, ensuring fans to expect a continuation of events within the Marvel Universe for this film series past next weekend.

We’re not expecting any news regarding if the original cast of Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel or Bradley Cooper will return to the sci-fi sequel for 2017, but we at least have confirmation.
