Earlier this year, HBO struck gold with the release of their drama series, Big Little Lies. Initially, the network presented the show as a limited-series, but gained a bigger following than the Time Warner Inc. channel ever expected. Following months of fans campaigning for a continuation, HBO officially confirmed that the show had been renewed for a second season.
It’s unclear when shooting will start or a target release date; but Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are returning to executive produce and star. Negotiations with others from the series are currently on-going; but everyone is expected to return, as well as the same writers.
HBO Programming President, Casey Bloys said, “I’m excited to announce the return of Big Little Lies. David Kelley wrote beautiful scripts and Reese and Nicole were, once again, a force to be reckoned with, reuniting the cast and recruiting the talented Andrea Arnold to direct. “It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate families.”
However, the big piece of news from this reveal, is that Jean-Marc Vallée will not be returning to direct season two. Instead, Andrea Arnold (Transparent, American Honey) will be shooting episodes for its upcoming return. Look for details to emerge in 2018 when we’ll get this second season.
