Inside Cash Money’s Vault with Birdman & Slim

At this point, if you don’t know, Cash Money Records is an empire. They’ve amassed billions of dollars of sales and have moved units like no other independent label in the history of rap.

In a sit down with FORBES, both Birdman and Slim talked about starting the label and why their father inspired them to do so. As they tell it, they were making a million a month independently, so when they came to the major labels, they were trying to do it their way. Baby said that Russell Simmons and Lyor Cohen turned them down, but Universal settled for an 85/15 split, with them owning all of their masters. They also talked about how Drake and Nicki Minaj got on Young Money.

Towards the end, the two divulged on Drizzy’s deal and if he’s off it, saying “we will always be in business with Drake” and not really answering what was asked.
