Denzel x Scarface
This summer, Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua are promoting their box office smash, The Equalizer 2. Known from previous work on their acclaimed 2001 film, Training Day, the two are looking to make additional installments for The Equalizer franchise. Before that happens, Fuqua is directing the upcoming remake of Scarface, which is shifting from Miami to Los Angeles.
The Tony Montana remake was set to make a splash in theaters this summer, but was delayed due to internal creative differences. This has enabled Fuqua to make additional plans to the script AND cast, as he wants his long-time friend Denzel to also star as Scarface.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter a few weeks ago, Fuqua said, “My dream is for him to be Scarface. He laughs sometimes and he kind of goes, ‘Al Pacino did a great job! I don’t want to do that.’ I’m nudging him. I’m trying to nudge him into doing it.”
