“N.W.A: Straight Outta Compton” finally sees some casting reveal.

For nearly three years, the official N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton has been in the works. Executive producer, Ice Cube has been lobbying more than any of his fellow legendary cohorts to get production started for long overdue film.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that film director F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set it Off, The Italian Job) has officially cast Marcus Callender (Dr. Dre), Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E) and Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson Jr. to star in the movie. Dr. Dre originally requested rising actor Michael B. Jordan to play him in the film, but didn’t get his wishes for the end result.

First announced in 2009, we’re relieved the blueprint is finally laid out, with hopes of still seeing fellow Compton rapper YG play the role of MC Ren; following an auditioning earlier this year. With that Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Wright signed off for Jason Mitchell (Broken City and Contraband) to play the role of the late rapper, filming for the biopic is now being targeted to start in the next two months.

Look for more details to emerge in the coming months leading up to its presumably 2015 theatrical release.
