In the streaming wars, Amazon beat out Netflix in terms of Best Picture Oscar nomination films. They will exclusively stream Manchester By The Sea, beating out Netflix, who is trying to change the game by streaming movies simultaneous with theaters. Obviously, Hollywood doesn’t want to cripple theaters, so they don’t like that model too much.

Even with a few L’s in the catalog, Netflix just scored a winner.

The streaming service acquired the rights to Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro’s The Irishman, which is based on the novel “I Heard You Paint Houses.” The project is about mob hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, who is believed to be involved in the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa and other mob killings. The title of the book is actually the first words that Hoffa told Sheeran upon meeting him.

Aside from the star names driving the film, the plot sounds crack.

Production for the Steven Zaillian-written script The Irishman will begin this year. And you know with Scorcese and De Niro on board, it will very much talked about.
