Director Terrence Malick has made more films in the last few years than he has in his whole career. His upcoming movie, Song to Song, takes place around the Austin music scene and features an all-star cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and Rooney Mara.
“I didn’t know why I was coming to see this party, but then I saw you and thought that’s why,” says Gosling at the beginning of the first trailer. Gosling and Mara play strugging musicians, while Fassbender plays a music mogul and Portman a waitress. It was partly filmed during 2012 Austin City Limits Music Festival, with cameos from the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Iggy Pop.
Benicio Del Toro, Cate Blanchett, Val Kilmer and Christian Bale are also set to appear in the film, which arrives March 17th.
