Good news: The Sopranos is officially getting a prequel movie, with the working title currently The Many Saints of Newark. David Chase, who created the classic HBO series, wrote the screenplay with fellow Sopranos writer Lawrence Konner.
“David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the ‘Soprano’ universe in a feature film,” Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said.
There’s no release date yet, but the script has been purchased by New Line and will be set in the era of the Newark riots in the 1960s. Some fan-favorites from the original series are expected to star in the film.
