With the Obama presidency at the end of its run, the stories from the White House will be interesting to hear after the fact. On Southside With You, things are taken to before any of it, though. All the way back to the beginning of Barack and Michelle’s relationship.
Inspired by the Obama’s first date, a young Barack tries to win the heart of Michelle back in Chicago circa 1989. The film chronicles what they did on that day, which includes watching Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee, visiting the Art of Institute of Chicago and sharing a first kiss over ice cream. As we all know, the two would go on to change the history of American politics in 2008.
Parker Sawyers plays Barack, while Tika Sumpter plays the role of Michelle on the Richard Tanne-directed film. Southside With You hits theaters August 26.
